I suppose the Orthodox Church uses the metaphor of straight and bent. As did C.S. Lewis in his Out of the silent planet.

Ortho- means “straight” or “upright”. doxa means glory. Romans 3:23 uses the metaphor of an arrow falling short of the target (the target being the glory of God). So in Orthodoxy God picks us up from where we have fallen and sets us on the straight path to glory.
Just some more thoughts about metaphors.
